Default Master Cylinder Paint or Dressing

I remember a thread a few weeks ago where someone just finished his engine compartment and posted pictures for more ideas. Some of you suggested a product to help bring his master cylinder back up to par. I have since forgotten where I wrote down the info. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi A8,
Originally master cylinders were painted semi-flat black. After that I guess the options are unlimited and depend on the look you're after.
Regards,
Alan

Did this on a friend's Vette over the winter.
Cleaned it best I could then unbolted it from the booster and pulled it forward a little, masked the lines and spread newspapers underneath.
FLAT black Rustoleum in a pint can with a 1" BRUSH. Pretty much cut the entire handle off the brush in able to maneuver it around underneath. Used a mirror to inspect and touched up as necessary, 2 coats.
The flat spreads out nice, doesn't look brushed at all.
I'm sure brake fluid spills may affect the paint, but wipe it quickly and keep it clean and it should be OK.
Short of removing it, best results I've had.

For the mastercylinder and front of the booster: Duplicolor CAST. A real nice flat metal grey that looks original and new. Tape off everything and spray a couple of LITE coats. Avoid drips. It dries real fast. You'll love the classy looking results.

I have seen some pictures where members have installed new ones and didnt paint them at all. How do you keep them from rusting if you go that route?

They will rust. Mine was rusted (replaced by a PO). I wire brushed it and put that manifold dressing on it with a tooth brush. Calyx. I like the idea of the flat black, that looks good.

Powder coating is an option also. Here is one I did for a friend and the nice thing is, break fluid doesn’t hurt the finish.

Seems like so many guys do this just not realizing Chevy painted them. Lot of times cause the one being replaced wasn't painted. Trouble is, previous one was probably a replacement also.
