My power steering Control Valve has a small hole with what looks like a tiny ball bearing in it. It leaks from there. What is it and how do I stop it from leaking?
From the years of experience it is easier to replace the control valve with a new/rebuilt valve. Even though you can buy the rebuild kits for the valve it is slightly time consuming and for me, the time it takes for me to overhaul a valve and re-balance it it about the same as if I buy one and install it and balance it. So I always replace the valve. As for the ball bearings, they are made into the unit and are not in the rebuild kit, or at least any of teh kits that I have used in the past. I do not believe they are serviceable, or at least not easily serviced. Good luck and hope that helped .
Thanx Grandmaster. But it is a new complete system that I just installed. I was hoping that the small hole with the ball bearing is supposed leak for pressure reasons. Guess not. I will have to have another look.
Another problem is the PS is very easy when turning to the right but almost non-existent when turning left. Do I have to rebalance the Control Valve? If so how is that done?
The ball bearing is a light press fit into the hole. There should be witness stakes to hold it in place. It is normally quite a reliable and secure method of plugging a communication hole. It should not leak.
If you can get the ball out of the housing you might try to drill and tap the hole for a small pipe plug.
