427 valve covers on ZZ454 crate motor ??
I would just love to powdercoat my stock 427 valve covers and put them on my new 454crate motor which has alum. heads. I seem to remember hearing that you needed thicker gaskets or something. Or just reg gaskets and put them on??? Just to be safe I will probably rotate the motor by hand with covers laying on heads and see if they touch-without gaskets...

Short valve covers will work just fine...The only time you have to worry about clearance with the valve covers is if you have roller rockers with Poly Locks. and its the Poly locks that cause the problem, no the rocker arm itself. I've even gone as far as reducing the hieght of the poly lock so that it will clear the valve covers.
A medium height valve cover will clear most poly locks. You don't have to go to the tall valve covers until you start running stud girdels.

I am running roller rockers, poly locks and stock chrome covers..trim the drippers, glue three sets of gaskets and you have a wonderful Bubba job...did this and no problems with leaking....
I got hold of aluminum spacers, and the look is much improved...no more Bubba....
