73 vette 350 automatic rochester carb. At start up the car idles nicely and runs great. After driving the car for a while the engines idles fast about 1000-1200 rpm when shifted into park or neutral which causes a rough shift back into drive or reverse, anyone have any suggestions where I should begin to look.
As usual thanks for all your responces.
Easy checks first.
Your choke is completely released.
Your butterflies are closing completely to the stop screw.
Your advance weights move smoothly and are returning to no advance position.
Maybe your idle screw is too far in and it is high enough to let it idle cold and when the car warms up it is too high. I was having a problem similiar to this, but I knew my choke wasnt hooked up and needed the high idle.
If you let the car warm up in the driveway does it settle down?
yes the car idles slightly fast at start up then down after warm up. The only time it seems to idles fast is after driving it for a while and shifting into neutral or park the idle speed stays fast and you can't tap it down.
thanks for the help it is greatly appreciated
