Extra terminal on new starter solenoid
I purchased a new Standard Motor Products solenoid for my 1980.
The original had one upper terminal to connect the wire that
activates the solenoid. The replacement has two upper terminals,
one on each side. I tried using the one on the upper right as
this is much more accessible than the one on the upper left.
Starter would not function, only worked when hooked up to the
upper left terminal.
(Original only had one terminal on the upper left).
What is this terminal for?
No instructions came with the solenoid.

Hi
I wish they would use this type solenoids on the mini high torque starters too. Because those only have 1 terminal, I had to install this diode for the points type ignition system.
Of course, the requirement for the extra diode order is not mentioned in the starter sales text.
