You looked at the Detroit truetrac wormgear drive LSD? after some research , that's what i put in my truck. True LS, with no wear out mechanism. http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Produc...trac/index.htm

When I had the old clutch style posi in my nova it would do strange things in the burn out box at the drag strip, sometimes it wouldn't lock and only one tire would spin, I changed to a truetrac about 3 years ago, very solid construction, and so far it has performed very well at the track and on the street. If/when I rebuild the vette rear I would definitely go this route

I should add that my clutch style posi was old and have no idea how much abuse it had taken, so it may have just been wearing out too...

there is so many choices out there running man and novettyet . im a little confused in what direction to go. all i have is the standard 71 camaro 10 bolt which i hear is alot stronger then the earlier 10 bolts . the motor in the car is around 400 hp with 2500 stall in a TH350. its no powerhouse so i dont think i need to go crazy with the diff. all i want to do is put in 3.73 gears , standard axles. bearing kit. and something like the eaton true trac you recommended.i have much to learn with diffs.

this is where ill be shopping for the part. is this the true trac you are talking about? pay no attention to the 12 bolt diff. there looks to be 4 choices. locker, true trac, posi and Elocker. is the posi even better then the true trac?

I don't know what the conversion rate is, but over here they run about $420. when i researched differentials, it came down to street driveability, that meant LSD. only 2 types of true LSD out there, that is, types that never truly lock up, which is a safety advantage, they are the helical gear type like the truetrac, and the clutch type like our original eatons. the advantage of the helical type in no wear out mechanism, advantage of the clutch type was the price, about 1/2 to 2/3 of the truetrac. Auburn gear makes what they call a LSD but it actually locks and unlocks, bad for rain.: http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...tions_lsd.html

The truetrac came most recommended from the 4x4 board i asked on

And what we have stock:

That is the correct type in the flea-bay ad.

thanks runningman. looks like its a tru trac for me. the conversion rate is only 80c to the dollar but its the freight thats the killer. something heavy like that even though its smallish would be $150 then if something were to go wrong i have nobody to go back too. when our dollar hits the 90c or more i buy up from the states but generally if something here is twice your price then it works out much the same.

i cant wait to get away from this open wheeler and finally have both traction and accelleration.

and good one rpoL98 ...im on about my 6th brewski at the moment. 8pm here.

with that link you gave me thats about a 150 AU saving running man after i take into account 192 US shipping fee. i can certainly get ozzie diffs to sharpen their pencil. they want 430 AU for a set of GM 3.73 gears..... time to hit ebay again and see if i can sharpen that pencil some more.
