cam gurus what about the comp cam nostalgia zl1?
I'm probably replacing my L88 cam ( suspecting that it's not yet at its best anymore)...
since I want to stay with about the same cam , what about the comp cam Nostalgia Zl1 ?
here are specs
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...?csid=484&sb=2
I'm not expert but it seems to me that has slightly less duration and more lift.
what kind of difference should I have on my car with such cam in place of the original L88 cam?

Little less duration @ .050. A lot less duration @ .006. (faster, modern ramp rates) more lift. On your engine these are all positives. You have better heads than the old L88 heads that will respond well to more lift. You have lower compression that will respond better to more lift and less duration. The new ZL1 cam also has less overlap due to the lower duration @ .006 which will give you less intake reversion, a little better idle quality and better bottom end and midrange without sacrificing anything up top. The internals are the same L88 to ZL1 with the only differences in the cam, engine block and heads. If you buy the new block and recondition and reuse your internals you will have a ZL1 clone with better, modern GM heads. The ZL1 weighs in at 25# less than a small block. The ZL1 clone will have very good resale value also if you ever decide to go that route and you need another reason to justify the cost of the block.
With all that said there are better cam options for performance but you lose some of what your after as far as an authentic recreation.
