thanks for the info willcox I will definatly have to look into that wire harness maybe earlier than I thought
also to any one else my car wont move anymore it was running just fine a few months back when I first saw it and drove it and it was not making any noises but now it wont move(cant hear any gear changes) and a friend of mine suggested a cable that is connected to the shifter that might have worked loose or broke is there any truth to that statment.
EDIT:Nevermind on why the car is not engaging in gears I took the dip stick out and saw that it was bone dry so there is either none or very little fluid in the tranny, any idea what it is supposed to be.
also where can I get the bar that connects the outside handle to the part that releases the latch to open the door from the outside, I am trying to get the doors fixed to I can open them from the outside so I can roll the windows up and set off a bug bomb to kill anything that is still inside(I saw a black widow under the car and when I came back with something to kill it it was gone so I am going to set a bug bomb inside and under the car to make sure I get it...I want to live to drive this thing)

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I agree with W2X and suggest you buy 2 books BEFORE you take anything apart.
The 74 GM "Assembly Instruction Manual". This is the technical documentation that was used on the assembly line in St.Louis.
The GM "Chassis Service Manual" for 74. This is the guide that was used in the dealerships for servicing the cars. Many of the vendors on this site sell these books.
You WILL find these books priceless if you get into doing to your car what you're talking about, or even if you just do enough to get it so it's drive-able.
As everyone has said a body-off restoration takes a tremendous amount of ability, time and MONEY. Many of the cars you at the car shows you hope to bring your Corvette to, have had and thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars spent on them.
Regards,
Alan
"Faded ink on yellowed paper is better than the BEST memory"
DOCUMENT your car. Get a notebook and WRITE down what you see and how you disassembled the car. Take LOTS of pictures.
BEFORE you start taking things apart, get a digital camera and take LOTS of pictures to document the configuration of parts. This will be a memory aid so take pictures from as many angles as you can.
As you disassemble a car, again, take LOTS of pictures documenting how it came apart - these will be valuable when you go to put it back together.
DON'T THROW PARTS AWAY. Even if it is junk, don't throw a part away - you may need to refer to it later as you put things together. Also, what is one man's junk is another man's treasure. That old part may be more valuable than you think.
Bag and Tag the old parts and store them where you can FIND them. This is especially true of fasteners (nuts, bolts, screws, etc).
I get to feeling so bad for him and his car, I would go fix it for him if it were within driving distance. A lesser man would have given up before now.
I truly wish that C3 (modified 1979 but I forget) hits the road this summer.
). Slightly off topic, but my son and his GF were in Monaco (we are in UK) for their summer vac. Ferrari's, Merc's, Lamborgini's were all everyday sights, then a guy turns up in a yellow 74 vette and is waved through all the security to park in a prime slot in front of the casino beside the Maybach's, Bentleys etc. You cant beat cool!
