Th350 not holding 2nd gear.................transmission experts
in one of my other cars it has a th350 . 2500 stall . when i put it into drive it holds 1st gear for an appropriate amount. then 2nd only briefly for about 3 seconds then goes to 3rd as it should for the rest of the time. what do you think my chances are if i put a transgo shift kit in it that it may cure my problem.
as a side note if i put it in 1st manually it will hold 1st
if i put it in 2nd , same thing no problem it will hold 2nd
as with 3rd....it holds gears no problem in any gear manually.
...its only in drive that i think it should hold 2nd longer so maybe a valve body issue. what do you think?

I would take a look at the governor sticking, binding or teeth worn. A shift kit won't improve a transmission function that dosen't shift right from the get go.

First things...how are the fluid level and the vacuum connections at the manifold and the modulator on the tranny? I had similar symptoms (79 L82 TH350; no or erratic shift in 3, perfect function when shifted manually) and found it was a bad vac connection on both ends. If all connections are OK may have a bad modulator.
