Default Forged differential side yokes for a -78?

Hello.

Eckler's forged side yokes appear to be discontinued.

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...4&dept_id=1741

Could you point me to right direction for such parts, please?

I doubt Ecklers made those, probably are International Axle yokes. You can go direct to them for them if you think you need them. The question is what is your application? The 17 spline new or rebuilt yokes sold by everyone from Lonestar should hold up to 500 hp, over that and I would use Tom's 30 splines and then mod then a little and grind to fit.

Thanks guys.

I'd prefer to stick with 17 splines.

Anyone know how much HP those cap style HD yokes can take?

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...4&dept_id=1864

And how about those Vansteel flanged yokes?

http://www.vansteel.com/index.cfm?fu...&SubGroup=1934

My car is a -78 with a mild SBC 540 hp/560 lb-ft. It has a TKO600RR and final ratio is 3.55:1. Car will never see slicks and probably not strip either, instead I will do some track days with it.

That is what is under my car right now. No problems with about 500HP so far. Talk to Van Steel they will help you out on this.

TheFinn - I purchased these yokes (same exact ones from Ecklers - remanufactured Heavy Duty with End Caps) during my '78 rebuild, and I just had the left one fail - it sheered off (have driven the car maybe 500 miles). I thought I blew the diff, but when I started taking it apart, it was clear what had happened. I have a fresh 383 with 440hp/450tq, a very aggressive shifting 200-4R from Bow Tie Overdrives, and a rebuilt 3.70 differential. I have meaty 275/17 street tires. The failure occured at half throttle going from 1st gear to second gear. I thought I trashed the differential...never would have guessed it would have been a side yoke (I have 3 inch heavy duty half shafts as well). Here are a few pics:

I'm definately going with a forged or other yoke since I have the diff out of the car!

Good luck - sorry I didnt' post earlier on this...it just happened.

Bill

Bill, thanks for the info but sorry about the damage.

With great offline help from Dan the Van Steel (see above) I went with their HSHP-05 yokes. I just got an e-mail on Monday this week from Duntov's telling that they should get forged Super Duty yokes within a week or so, in case you are interested in them.

BR,
Finn

Finn - I just talked to Duntov as well and ordered their Super Duty Yokes...their are located in Farmers Branch, TX...not to far away from me. I got the same info on delivery - should be in stock in about 5 days. Now I just have to flush the diff real good...

You made a good choice in yoke...and helped me decide to throw those HD yokes in the recycle bin!

Good luck on your install!

Bill

Like Gary said, those yokes in the photo with the machined billet caps are from International Axel company. Last I heard Tom at International Axel had stopped making his yokes and spindles they were some of the best parts out there.

I have heard Tom is comming back into production, I just hope it isn't after shipping the tooling overseas.

Other yokes pictured look like Lone Star stuff, if they are I'll just about guarantee they are from China, buyer BEWARE!

I checked out some "Lone Star made" rear wheel bearing supports and they were pretty NASTY! The parts came from India through Lone Star. I wouldn't use them myself!
