Back-up lights stay on continuosly...
Just got a 1977.
Back-up lights stay on when the car is running.
Where should I begin to track this down?
(is it a bulb issue?... or a switch problem?)
Wondered if there was a quick answer so I can narrow down the cause... as I am on the road at the moment and could use some streamlined advice.
Thanks a million!

yup, switch, there is a little tiny rod that connects your switch to your reverse lever on your tranny that is broke or slipped off while in reverse. thats my guess..
if you can disconnect the switch wires that will open up the circuit and your lites will go off, but the connection is probably under your dash or shifter console ( don't know on a 77)

Transmission switch for 4 speed cars; neutral safety switch under the console for automatic cars.

it may also be the spring loaded switch under your brake pedal that switches the brake lights on when you brake. this happened to me and luckily I spotted it while walking away... instead of a dead battery when I came back.

I replaced my back up switch last weekend and the back up lights are on all of the time. I'll get under there tomorrow and adjust the switch. There are 2 slotted holes which make it easy to do. I'm sure that's the problem in my own case. Here is the thread that I started with a picture of the switch. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...n-see-pic.html

thats gotta be a bad ground on the light.. check for voltage in the bulb socket and ground the meter to the frame. and not the bulb base.. if you have voltage, then the problem is a base to ground issue.
