i think the alt. pulley is normal, the double power steering pulley looks like it is a special piece.

I'm pretty sure all LS-5's w/ PS had a special alt pulley that moved the belt forward.

Right.... The alternator pulley on a AC/PS car has a thick spacer built into it. Almost as thick as the groove itself. I ordered it from Zip for $37...

This thread is very helpful though with all of the belt number info and close up pics of the brackets/pulleys etc. Mine is a new build so I had no idea how all this crap goes on...

Just looked at my pulleys and see that the power steering pump pulley is rubbing the idler pulley. Is that normal? Yours look so close but I really cant' tell.

FYI, as far as belts go, Quanta sells the original style GM part numbered belts. I bought a set for my 71 LS5 and they fit perfectly, just like the original which was what I was after.

the last pic shows how close they are but mine did not have any touch marks on it. pretty sure this motor has never been out of the car.

ordered all my goodyear belts from summit. ordered all original radiator hoses from zip. my a/c ls-5 has 2 lower radiator hoses connect by a metal elbow. non a/c cars have just the one longer hose. also, got the fan shroud insulation. my radiator to core insulation looked new. those gatorback belts look nice. also ordered all new power steering hoses from zip. all 4 of them. i don't want any problems with 30 year old hoses later on after the motor is back in.

goodyear belts fit fine. onething i notice while putting the new power steering lines on was the power steering pump top will not come off. it hits the alt. bracket. is it this way on everyone's car?

after thinking about it. i think the bracket under the atl. should move. maybe i need to loosen it up and push it away from the power steering pump top. i'll try it later today and let yaw know back

Yeah the power steering pump cap is tight. I actually left off the alternator "strap" that goes from the top water pump stud and to the upper alternator bolt. Leaves a lot more room to get to the power steering cap. My alternator is fine with out it...

I also had to file my Edelbrock water pump a hair to clear the pulley.

If you are running full roller rockers, beware the stock valve covers. I tried using the stock covers with the Felpro double cork gasket (5/16") AND a Felpro rubber gasket, basically 3 gaskets on each side and after running it a bit and removing the covers, I could tell some of the rockers were hitting. Not to mention all the gaskets looked chitty. I got the stock looking "cheater" valve covers that are 3/4" taller...no more problems and they look identical to stock.

Your engine looks nice....

You need to take a razor black to that black RTV on the front of the intake though, then hand paint the black bead chevy orange...

I am interested to see how yours comes out...It should be pretty peppy....

Here are some shots to use when you put it back together.
Hopefully they will come in handy.

For you Camaro guys, here's a nice ZL-1 for reference:

just an update after running the engine. the goodyear alt. power steering belt was a little too long. jumped around alot. i had to get one a little bit shorter from autozone. not a gatorback. the shorter gatorback was not a vee belt and would not work.
