Have you taken it out with the open headers yet? I drove mine to the gas station and got lots of questions about the car, especially when I opened the hood. Looks good Brent. Nice work!!!!!

Still haven't been able to take it around the block yet. Hoping to do some better videos with our newer camera. The original vids are pretty grainy.
Here is the original start up vid. Had to feather the gas to start it. Lots of air in the fuel lines. Open headers are loud in the garage, but not so much on this video. You can see there is hardly zero movement of the motor when you rev it. The Energy Suspension poly motor mounts are nice and tight.
Didn't realize my camera was set on the lowest resolution for video. Had a trans line fluid leak due to a section of Gates hose bought at O-reillys that was a VERY large 3/8, maybe close to 10.5mm. I went to Napa and got a 9.5mm 3/8 trans line hose and it solved the problem. I told the guys at O-reillys about this, and they just looked at me like a deer in the headlights.

Spring forward tonight on the clocks. That means warmer weather is just around the corner. Time for more videos. I like the fact that your wife is just as happy with it as I would be. Cool!!

Last video until I get the exhaust set-up. Nicer camera taking this one. The mic is saturating I think as it is nice and loud.
I took it for a shakedown cruise right after this vid was shot. Everything seems to be working nicely. Next stop is the exhaust shop.
I'm going 2.5 true duals with an H-pipe fabbed up locally once I can get a minute to spare.

I will definitely get it out to some show events this year. Family stuff seems to always severely limit my ability to go to these things.
Autocrossing would be very cool, even at a fun only level, but I would want to do a wheel-tire upgrade before I attempt that. I have been looking at the SCCA website for more info over this last winter and have plans for new treads on the car.

Got the exhaust and alignment done today. had a day off work. First week in a few that I'm not traveling for work.
I got ahold of Randy at Doug Rippie Motorsports and asked if they had any take-off exhaust parts. Randy told me to come on out and rummage through their bins. They had a good collection of 3 inch C6-Z06 mid pipes and a few others. I found this little gem going through them. Its a 2008-2010 standard C6 Vette 2.5 inch mid pipe with an X-pipe.
I took that over to a local frame and alignment shop in Andover Mn that does alot of street rod-muscle car type work to get a custom exhaust set-up welded up. Jared over there took good care of me and did me up a 2.5 dual system with the C6 pipes and my original Pacesetter Monza type mufflers. That and an alignment and I'm on the road
Car up in the air:
Pipes coming from the C5 shorty's to the rear spring. They are welded up at the original cat bracket mount to the tranny mount and use one of the rear cat bracket mount hole to hold up the rear. Keeps the whole set-up flexible:
Rear shot of old pipes meeting up with new. Nice and tightly tucked in:
They are not as loud as I was hoping at idle, but get a nice deep V8 note once you step on it. No noticeable resonance whatsoever. The X-pipe is doing its job.
Had some fun today with the LS1 also. On my way home, a guy in a black Mercedes AMG sedan (I saw his badges at the stop light) was accelerating rapidly to overtake me before a merge in the road ahead. A little go pedal, a nice downshift, a roar of the V8, and I was GONE!!! The CFI motor would never had been able to anything close to that. Had to smile the rest of the way home on that one!!
Next step is to get the pipes painted with my trusty Duplicolor 1200 degree Aluminum paint to match the rear pipes all together. Got to love playing with exhaust parts.
Also need to add that the 26 inch U-joint ctr-ctr driveshaft and the LS1 "standard" motor mounts don't cause any funny vibrations in the driveline. With my fresh alignment today and 6 yr old tires that were rebalanced last fall, the car drives super smooth to 85MPH so far (speedo limitation).

Great job on the swap Brent. I really like how your exhaust turned out! I got my motor/trans in the car yesterday so hopefully I will be driving in the next few months.

Here is the semi-finished wire harness that I modded up myself. Basically snipped back all connectors that I'm not using, heatshrinked the ends, and tucked them back into the harness wrap. I have the underhood Painless 70217 kit for all new fuses and IGN relays, which will be mounted under the hood somewhere. I'll run a new Bosch relay for the fuel pump back in the existing ECM compartment behind the drivers seaat, where the old relay is that I wont be using.
do you need to have the Painless 70217 ?

The 70217 makes it easier to set-up your relay-fuse config. Its small-clean-straight forward, and weather proof. Its only 2x 40 amp relays, so you'll have to set-up the wiring out of that as how you need it, sharing the load evenly between both relays double outputs. I still ran a separate relay for the fuel pump. Pulled some nice genuine Bosch units out of mid 90s GM 4 door sedans, like pontiac Grand Ams I believe. Get the relay, the pigtail, and metal mounting tab. They all clean up real nice.
Feel free to PM me anytime you run into a wall on your install.
Get all your wiring diagrams on LS1tech forum Hybrids and Conversions or i can send you some stuff if you send me your e-mail address.

Finally got a decent exhaust vid.
Stock LS1, OBX C5 shorty headers, C6 X-pipe, and Magnaflow 15623 mufflers. I really need a better camera for better audio. The little Canon SD300 just doesn't cut it.

Brent: great install. Can't wait to see the car some time.
If you can recommend the shop you used in Andover, send me a PM with the info. I just installed hydroboost and a Borgeson box and I need an alignment/check-my-work/tighten all the nuts and bolts.
Thanks
