Guys- just what is the spring in the lower radiator hose for?
when the hose bends so it does not kink? Replacing my radiator
and hoses, new lower hose had no spring, destroyed the spring in the old hose trying to get it out.should have just cut the old hose apart.
Do i need it?-Thanks as always

you need the spring it stops the hose from collapsing and stopping all coolant flow

Its the return side to the rad.it will suck shut and stop flow.you need the spring

the spring is not particularly specific to the vette you can buy any hose that has the right size diameter and just pull the spring out and put it in the hose for the vette

The 'stock' hose is a smooth surface hose that can go flat when it gets hot, as it is on the suction side of the water pump. Some new hoses are corrugated and don't need to have a spring...they won't collapse anyway. If you need a spring, see if you can find a stainless steel one. It won't rust away.
