Baking Parts in the Oven. What Temp?
I have several pulleys in the oven now with engine paint. What temp do you recommend and for what time? I am using 250F for 20 minutes. If that sounds OK, I can do several more before the Wife comes in 90 minutes. Please advise. Thanks.
My recycled smog pump pulley on the other side is doing very nicely in primer. Just have to baste it in black and I am finished! I love cooking.

I have a can of spray paint that I'm going to use on my exhaust manifolds. It's called VHT flame proof coating. It say's on the can to let it air dry for 15 to 30 minutes. Bake at 250 for 30minutes, then 30minutes at 400, then 30minutes at 650.

I bake them at 450 for 15-20 minutes to burn oils out. Then I powdercoat and bake at 400. But that's powder coating.
Why did I even reply? :jester

I am not being entirely facetious. I prep a number of parts in the basement workshop in anticipation of the spring roll-out of my Corvette. Temp down there is about 60F as I have the heat vents closed. I find that paint will not set properly. So a mild treatment in the oven does just fine. But it is an art of sorts. The optimum temp varies with the paint but as noted earlier, about 225F for 15 minutes with GM engine semi-gloss seems to give the best results.

Bill,
Perhaps. She is not here yet. But I would imagine you would fry bacon and eggs on your side pipes!

Just to put an end to this frivolous but serious post, the pulley turned out very nicely. The Wife was not fooled: what Corvette parts have you been cooking tonight? How do they know these things? I tried to disguise it with a roast of ham amd cream corn....Well the ham was a little black on the edges ;) . I tried.
