Welded tranny OK???
Hello All, I have an oportunity to buy a rebuilt 1973 M20 at a good price. My only concern is a welded ear and a weld an one of the shifter bolt bosses. Is that something to be concerned about or not.

I have repaired [tig welded] many of these cases in the past including
one case that I reattached 3 ears on [the guy said he had nothing to lose] he raced late model sportsman class.
None ever came back . I think he overlooked tightening the bolts!

The mounting lug is no big deal. The shift lever boss is OK, too...IF it was welded in the right place and doesn't bind the shift shaft. So, work the shifter a few times to make sure it engages properly and has no binding action.
