Yesterday, I removed the six screws that mount the big vacuum can to the back of the driver's wheel well. Three brackets attach the can to the wheel well; a bracket on top, in the middle, and one at the bottom. I removed all six screws. The can should have came out. It seems like something on its face (facing the inside quarter panel) is holding it in. Baffled. I removed one from my 68, and it came loose after undoing the six screws.
I've removed the power brake booster, the clutch bellhousing rods, and the engine, so there's no reason I can see it won't come loose. I looked in the AIM and saw nothing that's holding it in. Tonight I'm going to take a mirror and flashlight and try to see what's holding it?
Hi 68/70,
Did you remove the screws for the charcoal canister bracket thinking they were for the tank? The screws for the bracket on the tank that faces the inner fender are easy to miss.
Regards,
Alan

Hmmm. Good thought. I'll have a look tonight. Actually I think I'll remove the charcoal cannister also, just to make sure. The entire area in their is pretty dirty, and is covered by respray from a previous owners repaint. I'll powderpaint the vacuum can if/when I get it out.
