Im thinking about moving the rear trailingarms closer together
to accomodate wider rims/tires
i know that it means i have to get a custom spring and shorten up the halfshafts.
also the rear compartment floor would need to be modified and the rear crossmember needs to be shortened
but does anyone know if it would negatively effect the handling of the car? i plan to move it in by app 4in each side.
That is coorect, my idea was to move the framerails closer together.
i allready have the offset trailing arms from Van Steel but 10 2 rim and 275 is my limit i want to have 325 without flares is possible.
my concern is that it would alter the stabillity of the car?
as you know just above the frame rail pocket you probably have some very slight tire rub on the frame rail. but the rest of the tire has a ton of clearance...at least another 1". He cut the frame pocket buldge just above the frame pocket hole and rewelding in a flat piece of steel giving him a lot of extra clearance to tuck his big tires all under the fenders in the rear
Thank you very much
Great thread on the frame modding, really inspiring.
I am pretty sure i want to go a little further thou as i want 12 or 13" rims but not much for the looks of fender flares.
There is also the posibillity of changing the rear end to a C5/C6 rear end with the A-arm setup for a nice clearance.
but i allready have a gazillion $$ into my completly chromed rear end
and that would mean to start over again.
My main concern was if it would somehow do wierd things to the cornering stabillity, the farbrication in itself is no problem.

Unless you're going to redisign the TA's to account for the mod, you'll have to shorten the half-shafts, camber struts and main leaf spring if you actually move the forward attachment points of the TA's inward, else you'll create suspension geometry issues, particularly when you go to set rear toe. Might have to re-think the diff x-member and cut up your batt and storage boxes too...
