Default How do I install a HEI coil??

I have a 75 with the coil that resides on top of the distributer cap. How can I install a HEI external coin i.e accell or MSD that gets mounted some where near the distributor. Do I have to get a diffrent cap that dose not hold a built tin coil or do I leave that coil and attach the other coil or power source somewhere in engine compartment? How do I disconect the stock coil and connect the new coil?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

At one time both MSD and Accel offered a adaptor that mounted inplace of the oem coil and had a place to plug in a coil wire from an external coil. Not sure if they still make these as there is no performance gain with an external coil over one in the cap. You will have to check their catalogs to see if they are still available.

Accel makes what they call the Super Coil that mounts right in the spot for the HEI coil. It runs about $60 and is rated around 40kv. This is a good substitute for the stock HEI coil.
