Default No dash lights or tail lights

I don't have tail lights, dash lights or parking lights on my 77. I replaced the headlight switch and still nothing. 12 volts on each side of the tail light fuse. Cleaned the ground on the rear crossmember. Not good on this electrical problems so any help would be appreciated. Thanks Chuck

Check your brown wire at the switch for power when pulled on.
Thats the front and back park and tail.

When you are testing both sides of the fuse are you touching the fuse or the fuse holders ?
Always touch both because if the fuse is corroded the fuse can be hot but the fuse holder wont be hot. Fuse holder feeds the wiring.
Just for fun test the BAT spade just to the right of the tailight fuse, I'm pretty sure if the fuse is not making good contact the spade wont be hot.
If all that is ok then move to the HL switch and check the 18 orange.
Good Luck

Sounds like your new switch might be the culprit. Did you have lights before swapping the switch?

No i didn't have lights thats why i replaced th switch.

Roger i have voltage at the orange wire at the light switch. I checked the spade on the fuse box and it didn't have voltage till i turned on the key. BTW does a wire connect to that spade (terminal)?

noonie i really can't get in to check the brown wire at the switch with it in the on position.

Power at the orange is a good thing , if you don't have power at the brown with the switch pulled out the switch is going to be at fault or the connector.
You can check the brown at the rear body harness connector at the left kickpad, should be a double row connector with around 9 different colored wires,2 are white.
If the brown is hot there it will be hot at the HL switch.
Is the INST fuse hot when the HL switch is on and rotated ? Its the little 5 amp one at the bottom left.
If the brown is not hot and the INST fuse is not hot I think you are going to be pulling the HL switch again.

The spade beside the tailight fuse might be used but it will depend on options.
When I ask you to check the spade I was mistaken as to which fuse powered it.

This is your second HL switch, are the conditions the same for both or did the new switch fix anything ?

Roger thanks for your help. The new switch did not change anything. I will not be able to get back working on it till Sunday. I will try the other tests on Sunday. At the age of 67 it's busting my butt crawling under that dash. I have the seat out but it's still a tight fit. I will keep you updated. Have a nice weekend. Chuck
