Wow! Some good pics there. Makes me think about getting some beefier half shafts...I have a carbon fiber driveshaft that came with a used Tremec I bought about 4 years ago, but still the stock half shafts. I don't have sticky tires, and would never run sticky tires, so my (thus far justified) hope is that the wheels will spin before the shafts twist or the IRS breaks. I now have enough low end torque that I don't need to dump the clutch to smoke tires any more

Is this the first GM V7 or was it just a try to increase MPG ?
Jokes apart, what did the valves look like ?

Now THAT is impressive

Here is what remained of my a-arm bushings after 30 years. I thought the front end was a little squirrely when I bought the damn thing.

I think what happened was one pushrod failed, and got tangled up with the other around 6500 rpms....The lifters actually hung in the bores so pressure was fine and the valves were perfect. Just didn't seem to have the umph it used to, so I pulled the valve cover and saw the rockers flopping around, then the intake.....

Funny you mention gas mileage....With the Comp XE-284 (the failed lifter cam) I was getting around 15 mpg's.....I've since switched to the solid Isky, upgraded the valve train with heavy wall chromoly pushrods,7/16 studs, and 1.60 roller rockers, also went to a 3000 stall,....Gas mileage now is about 11 mpg's......Horse power is up,....rpm's tip 7000 easy,....so I guess that would be forward progress.......Right?

The picture doesn't really do this justice. The loose spindle shaft turned funny colors from the heat and the base is worn flat. I was puttering down the highway at almost twice the posted speed when the back of my car started to smell funny. I stopped and jacked the back end up and had a half inch of free play in the rear tire. When I unbolted the halfshaft the spindle fell out.

I was on a local cruise and my tranny decides that it doesn't want to shift from 2nd to 3rd and at about 4000 RPM my oil pump decides to lock up. The lock down was so sudden and at such high RPM the distributor was the weak link. Thankfully no engine internals were damaged since the car immediately shut off due to lack of fire.
