No April Fools joke here.
Left front Firestone 500 tire blew out, hit a utility pole. Frame was bent, left lower control arm ripped off. Fiber optic wiring harness cut through. $3400 in damages. Luckily not a scratch on me. It took until the 3rd insurance adjuster to convince them to not total it.
Those tires eventually were recalled by NHTSA branch of federal government. It seems that happens frequently for Firestone. And my insurance company, Ohio Casualty, claimed they never received any compensation from Firestone. They cancelled my policy 4 days after the accident.

Yikes!
There should be a "Viewer Discretion Is Advised" warning on this thread.
Next time I want to put my foot in it, I'm gonna have flashbacks to the carnage and mayhem pictured here and...
...wonder which of my parts will end up in pictures

Not as dramatic as some of these, but I'll add this one until I get pics of some of the things I found today while tearing the car apart. My '77 needs a sticker that says "Bubba was here".
#3 cylinder was just not right. Little miss to it, and it still held 120 on the compression test.

Not so dramatic but sure ruined my day. After going quick I started to hear some knocking. It was the waterpump breaking and my fan hitting the shroud. Coolant all over my engine bay. Had to flatbed it home.

Yep, a broken engine mount caused the blades to hit the fan shroud and the clutch exploded at 6500 rpm.... fan blades haven't landed yet...

Well the best I can do is a broken ball stud on the block, on the clutch linkage of mine. No pics, and not nearly dramatic enough to warrant one, compared to others here. The worst I personally know of is a broken transverse leaf spring on my buddies 68 back in the late 80's. We were running probably close to triple digit speeds just hours before. The spring broke just 2 houses up from our parents. We were just dumb high schoolers then. His dad wasn't happy to have to winch the car up on his rollback with our neighborhood roads covered in snow.

Pulled rocker covers to check suspect valve stem seals. Found several valve spring dampers broken and valve stem seals most likely chewed up and spat out by the floating metal (luckily all metal seems to be trapped inside the springs still.) Yet to pull things further but am hoping no bent pushrods or worse.
