Not much, just a few things can be derived from the VIN #.
1=Chevrolet Motor Division
Z=Corvette Model line
87=Coupe body
4=220hp L-82 engine
9=designated digit denoting TRUE Pace Car, but in wrong spot for this car to be a PACE CAR!!!!!!!!!!
s=St.Louis Assembly Plant
4=check digit
1=this should be a zero, you'll see why next line...
5012=the 5012th '78 Pace Car built out of 6502, went from 900001 to 906502.

A few things here don't make sense and that is the VIN given is for a '79 Corvette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SIXTH DIGIT IN THAT VIN TELLS THAT THIS VIN BELONGS TO A '79 CORVETTE, L-82 #15012. The 15012th '79 Corvette built. BEWARE what you are looking at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm! An interesting question about the VIN Paul! What is the VIN sequence on the engine stamp pad? The transmission pad?

Hi,

The VIN is 1Z8749S415012.
The digit before the "S" is the year. By this it would be a '79. For a '78, the digit after the "S" indicates if a Pace Car or not. Regular Vette has a "4" there, the Pace car has a "9". By this number I would have to say it is a '79 that has been painted to look like a Pace Car.

By the way, could you reduce the size of those pics some? Due to their size everything runs off the right side of the screen.

All pace cars came with silver interiors. Also the crossflag emblem on the front fender is to low for the "Limited Edition" decal to fit, pace cars had the emblem mounted higher.

OK, so we have determined that this probably isn't the real McCoy of a 78 PC. However, it is a Corvette and a nice looking one at that.

I would ask all member who post photos here to look not only at the dimensions of the photo but the byte size. Some of these things require me to scroll across the screen to see them. Others take so long to download that it is an opportunity to get another cup of coffee.

That VIN is for a 79 Vette. What does your title say?
