Default fiber optics

The lens bezel that holds the lens has a hole in the back side where the rubber grommet holding the fiber optic wire goes into, the grommet has to be squeezed into the whole, you need to use a little vaseline to get it in the hole its a very tight squeeze. Before you try and put the rubber grommet in the light bezel use a new razor blade and if you have enough fiber wire sticking out the end of the rubber holder slice it straight off, This will clean the optic wire off like new and will be much brighter on the console area. I did that to all of mine and they look bright as new. Don't have a pic. Sorry , Good luck take your time and they will work like new. firstvett69

Gary,

Not sure what you are looking for on this. The fiber optics ran inside the rear harness. The optics then ran out of the harness with the wire connectors and plugged in to the back of the lamp assembly.

I can probably go snag you a picture of this from one of my cars but this might help you. Below are two pages from the AIM.. I colored in the optic with with blue to help show you where it comes out of the harness. The optic was one continuous wire from the lamp to the lens in the console If the optics have been cut it is possible to repair them but the light will never be as bright as a continuous optic lens.

I am restoring the fibre optics on my 69 as well and need a better understanding on the sequence of the parts install.
First the grommet gets installed into the light housing?
Second, which side of the housing go's the brass ferrule?
Third, do you put the lens over the fibre optic cable inside the housing?
The AIM isn't any help, at least for me!

I Had the same question. I found an old broken assembly and removed it from the optitc lead. The lenses comes up through the groommet from the botom then the lense is installed through the bottom and then th efiber lead with the ferule goes up from the bottom and then you install the boot.
