If its loud and sounds like the bearings need replaced it could be an M22.

Hi Roger,

That was the first question I asked him, he is adamant it decodes to a M24. I did some goggling, found Borg Warner made a 4 speed trans for a 1982 camaro, from what I can read look like a T-10, probably what he has.

Thanks

M24 could be a date code or other manufacturer's code rather than a model code.

Muncie 4 speeds were RPO numbers M20, M21, and M22. It just so happens that the RPO number starts with the letter M and is a mere coincidence. It does NOT mean it came from the muncie transmission plant. The M RPO is usually a transmission code just as the G codes are usually rear axle ratios. M24 may very well be the code on the transmission, but it is some other 4 speed and not a muncie.
