Im just woundering how much would it cost to modify my 1980 corvette to fit a big block engine in there...is it possible?

Why put a big block in there, when you can put an LS in instead. Aluminum block, better gas mileage,more reliable.

I have been pondering one for years and have figured about 10,000 for a new engine, accessories, starter, bellhousing, motor mounts, hydraulic clutch,etc, etc.

If you are able to do all the work yourself I can see you getting by for around $5000.

It is possible I would think higher than 5,000 engine purchase, brackets, exhaust, almost all of this is different. Have you thought about a 383 small block from Blueprint

I think about that all the time for my '82. Used, running 454s come up for sale frequently in my area for $1K and less. The other pieces can add up in a hurry though. I'd need to have my 700R4 built up, new TV linkage, intake and carb, radiator and front springs, new exhaust system, accessory brackets, Eaton rear etc. All told, I think it would run $3,500-$4,000 plus the used motor. Seems like a lot, but on the other hand, much of that would be required even with a built small block. The difference between swapping in a 454 and installing a 400 HP small block is probably less than $1K. You've got to spend a lot on SB innards to get the torque of a near-stock BB.

750 HP? Engine brackets are the least of your worries.
