If that's paint on the rubber bushing, yes.
That's very close to the position of the carrier on my 71.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I guess it just looks as if the parts should come together. Could have avoided the question altogether if I took a pic before disassembly.

bolt it in the bolt will snug it up.

Also a thin coat of anti-sieze in the cups will make life easier for you if you ever have to drop the diff again...

if you don't mind me asking, where did you get the new bushins from? i have just removed mine and wanted to replace them while it was out. thanks

by the way, your gap looked liked mine before i removed it last weekend.

I see them listed at Dr. Rebuild and Paragon.
I'd think other venders have them too, but I didn't see any in a quick look.

I didn't replace mine but I see that Davies has them for $59 each PN 652236. Zip also has them for $119 a set. I just ordered some parts from them and they gave me free shipping even though I expected to pay $8-10. Corvette America also has them for $65 each PN X2620.
