What is the thread size on the hoses to and from the valve and cylinder? The ports on the valve are just a little buggered up and I want to run a bottom tap in them just to clean them up a little. It measures around .433 OD with 24 threads per inch on the hose ends. This is on a 76.
THANKS!

Wow there's something I've never heard anyone ask B4. Certainly I'd bet, they are pipe thread probably on the order of 1/4" NPT. But that is just a guess. I can give you a bit of advice on replacements: Keep the boxes when you buy new ones with lifetime warranties. New replacements these days are no where near as good as The General made them years ago...
They are easy to exchange 18 months later when they leak if you have the original boxes and part numbers. CarQuest adn O'Reilly both offer lifetime replacements.
Power Steering Pressure Hose - Pump to Valve
Pump End - 5/8-18 UNF
Valve End - 7/16-24 NS
Power Steering Pressure Hose - Valve to Cylinder
(Both Hoses - Both Ends) - 7/16-24 NS
Power Steering Low Pressure Return Line
Valve End - 5/8-18 UNF
The hydraulic seal on all of these connections is with a brass seat in the female port and a 45 degree inverted flare on the hose pipes.
These are definately not pipe threads!!!

Jim,
Thanks, That makes perfectly good sense. I believe the NS stands for National Special. (I do contract Mech Work) I'll look on the Travers or Mc Master Carr web sites for a bottom tap, I just want to chase the threads.
Many Thanks!
Starting the 1980 model year, nearly all GM power steering connections were changed to 16 and 18 mm. However, on the Corvette only the pump discharge fitting was changed to a female a 16X1.5 mm thread and the port was machined to accept an o-ring seal. So the pump end of the 1980 Corvette pump to control valve hose assembly was redesigned to a male 16x1.5 nut and the tube end was changed to accept an o-ring. On the Corvette only the pump connection was changed the others remained as described above because they were to go out of production in 1982.
