I'd like to replace my leather seats with a nice cloth. I know the car came with a woven style cloth originally. I love the look of leather but I find that cloth is more comfortable.
Has anyone done this? And what was the cost? I got a bid from a local guy that I thought was a high. About $750! That was using a dark blue with lighter blue inserts. My car is an 82. If you have a picture that would also be great.
was the cost for both seats??? if it is for both and the guy that you talk is good, that price is worth it. i ask about redoing my 80 seats in the claret leather and the price sticker was HIGH  i ask why and the guy went on to tell me that the workmanship (is that a word  ) is high quality and the stitching was for life  ...but makes you wonder why you would pay all that money when you can send them to one of the vette restore placs and pay less. my 2 Cents
It pays to shop around. But that guy is probably in line with what you'll find for others (assuming quality work is being done). Few of these guys come cheap.
Exactly the reason I just bought an old Singer industrial sewing machine... I've always been pretty good around a sewing machine, I thought I'd give upholstery a go. fontking1a's awesome stitched interior was the inspiration for me.
Those prices quoted sound about right for what I've heard. I called a local shop in teh Denver area about a set of '79 seats I want to put in the '72, and they quoted my over $1000 for leather, which is odd considering you can buy pre-mounted cushions and covers for $600 or so.

I had both my seats redone in two tone cloth with each head rest embroidered for a total of around $350.00 Aus. That's around $175 US. and here's me thinking everything is cheaper over there.
Check my web page for pics.
I have my own upholstery business in the UK, I had never done a car before but I thought I would do my own. The job looks better than new ! but it took a long time to copy the pattern, cut, sew and fit it with new foam. I would not like to think how much it would have cost me as a job as the leather was £125.00 on its own.
Mark.......
Congrats on the sewing machine. You're going to have a blast doing the upholstery yourself. Think in terms of "inside out and backwards" and everything will come out great. Do some practicing until you get the hang of it. Now...there's no limit on what YOU can do and YOU don't have to depend on anybody else. The result can be as GOOD as you want it to be. Make sure you use really good thread and have a box of new needles handy. Let me know if I can be of service......
Well....after 4 visits to some shops I guess the price of 750 wasn't out of line. I did find a guy who was in the process of recovering a Porsche and it looked sweet. I decided to go with him because of the quality of work he showed me. His price is 700 and I'm suppliying the new cushions. I'm using a different cloth ( he is supplying). Dark Blue with silver inserts. As soon as the ccushions come in it will take him about 2 days to get the job done.
