Parking brake button popped off-how to repair?
The push button on the parking brake handle popped off the other day. It had a hairline crack in it and the spring underneath pushed it off the rod end. I'd rather not have to buy a complete parking brake assembly but instead repair mine. I have been unable to find a vendor who sells a new push button/rod itself. I guess I could cram the hole in the button with epoxy and push it back on and hope it holds as a last resort. Anyone have this happen to them and were you able to successfully repair it? I do have a complete used parking brake assembly that was given to me but it is in poor shape and at best is good for parts only, so I have that option also. Here's a couple of pictures. Thanks.

If you scuff the inside hole of the button, and then scratch up the rod with a screw driver.. you can put some epoxy in the button and slip it on until dry. It should hold just fine. You just have to give the metal rod some teeth for the epoxy to bite too.

It's funny that I just logged on to search the forum for the same issue. The only difference is that I just bought a '76 and the button and spring are missing. Had to take both seats out to replace parking brake console/clean up, etc. and the button and spring are no where to be found.
I guess I"ll have to post a thread in parts for sale to see if I can buy a parking brake handle for the button and spring.

Just an update for those interested, I ended up using an epoxy called Plastic Welder available from Devcon, Permatex and the brand I used was VersaChem P/N 47809.
Designed to adhere to metal and plastic, this was what the tech at Devcon/VersaChem recommended. I slightly roughed up the rod end with a Dremel burr, degreased it and the black plastic button. Packed the button with the epoxy mix and installed it. Used some duck tape to hold the button down as the spring was trying to push it off. 24 hrs full cure time later and it functions fine.

Just tried your fix yesterday. Took off the duct tape this afternoon and its holding and working great. Thanks! Oh and btw I used the exact same glue. Got it on amazon for $6 and change after shipping.
