Default What is this brake screw?

In a pinch.

I need to replace the brake screw (it's leaking, though it was the o-ring, replaced that, still leaking). I'd like to replace the whole gold screw assembly that is screwed into the brake black I believe it's called.

Anyway, I determined where the leak was coming from, pulled the part, and forgot to look up what it's called in my books. Now I'm at work, I want to order the part online, but can't find the part on any of the sites...so was hoping someone could tell me what it's called so I could hopefully easily find it.

Any help is appreciated, and it's the brighter gold screw that is screwed into the bottom of the brake block.

That's your propotioning valve (Gold distribution block all the brake lines attach too) and it is year specific in c3 vettes. It looks like someone tried adapting one from a different year with the spacers in there. Corvette Central carries new proportioning valves. Trying to fix a leaky fix like that just isn't worth the time IMO

That is the proportioning valve part.
I believe only the complete combo valve is available.

Sure hope not...looks like the whole part is $100. Fail.

There is a round rubber spot on the one side of the screw. I believe the leak is coming from there, but it's hard to tell as that rubber part faces the frame and is in close. The leak is coming directly from that part, so it's got to be it.

What is that rubber circle for? It's actually like an indented circle, with a rubber piece in the middle, and like 5 small rubber pieces around it.

is this what you want? are you talking about the brake switch in the middle of the block?

I've just gutted them and put a socket hex npt plug in there, but you loose the prop part that way.

Its not the rubber circle thats leaking its the orings behind the rubber circle.
That part is what usually fails on the valve.
Check out this thread Duke explains it.

Here is a pic of the valve with the prop spool removed not shown). You could try to replace the oring on the spool at the end closest to the rear line, I've never bothered.

If you want to rebuild it yourself, I have an Instruction paper I wrote (WORD Doc) on how to take it apart and replace the o'rings. Send me your email address if you want it. The rubber disk is a dust seal and is designed to blow out if one of the o'rings starts leaking.

If you gut them won't that connect the front and rear circuits? I want to plumb mine out, but I'd like to keep the front and rear circuits separate.

No, I leave the switch spool (pictured) in and only remove the proportioning spool (not shown) and plug the vent hole.

I'm going to take a good picture of mine today (out of the car), and post it. Can you comment on which is what (switch spool vs. proportioning spool)?

If you look at Duke94 pics in the link in Roger's post above, it shows the prop spool that is missing in my pic.
In my pic the spool in directly laying under where it would go inside the block.

Then what keeps the switch from sliding off center in the case of a front to rear pressure differential?

I't supposed to, but if you're asking if it goes past the oring lands to unite the two circuits, then no.
As best I remember, the dia of the spool hits the end of the prop valve housing when in place. the switch spool doesn't move very much, maybe 3/16" max.

Ok, here's what I got. It seems that the leak is coming from the rubber area. Anyway of "fixing" this screw item without having to order a whole new valve?

Did you get the rebuilding instructions I sent you? I can see that the o'ring on the plunger bearing (the one that shows in your photo) is toast

I have the same problem (see this thread) - looking for any help/instructions to maybe keep from buying the entire PV...? Or is that just a better idea anyway?

TIA
