Engine Temp Gauge not working (1982)

Anything specific to a 1982 that causes the engine temp gauge to not work? (All of the other gauges work fine)

With key off the needle rests on the first line, turn the key on it drops a little (hot or cold engine). Tried grounding another temp sensor and heating it..same response.

Circuit board??

What happens when you do the standard test,removing the sender wire and watching the gauge and then grounding the sender wire and watching the gauge ?

Thanks for getting back to me, just gave it a try...nothing appears to change with that method.

Then tried my analog ohm meter from the open plug and ground..<> no resistance back to the dash. Figure the gauge itself would show some resistance?

Did you do the test with the key on ?
The sender wire might be open.
