Any easier way to remove Exhaust studs.
I decided to remove my chambered exhaust and put back the original. So when I removed the chambers all the studs broke in two . Leaving me with about a inch of stud left but not enough to put my OEM back on. I really dont want to remove the manifolds but before I do I want to try to remove the studs while there in the vehicle. I know its a slim chance and i want to know if anyone acomplished this task. Thanks

The only easy way is to let the professionals do it. They seem to know the right shade of red generated by an acetylene torch to get them out. If you are determined to do it yourself, and do not have a torch, try a strong penetrating oil, let sit for a day or so, and use a stud extractor, seen below. Many Bubba wannabees try to get in there with vice grips. Not a good idea. The extractor gives you vertical leverage that you need.

It grips harder as you twist with the ratchet handle from an up-down (vertical position) rather than trying to put the vice grips on and twist side-to-side. I got three out with the torch, two with the extractor and one had to be drilled out and re-tapped. A miserable job that took eight hours. Next time I would not try it myself.

Brought mine to midas, they said they were afraid to tackle the job. My mechanic tried and suggested I buy new ones. It would be cheaper for him to put the new ones on rather than try to drill out the old. I finally brought it to the chevy dealer and they got them out and put in stainless ones @ 6hours x $80 an hr. I almost flipped when they gave me the bill. I don't think 6 hours is too much time, but certainly the hourly cost is a bit much.

With an inch of stud left you should be able to double nut the studs. Screw two nuts onto the stud and tighten the nuts into each other, then use a wrench to turn the lower nut. Heat the stud with a torch first.
I have seen a muffler guy burn the studs out with an oxy-acetalene torch. It took the muffler guy about ten minutes to burn out six studs on the car with no damage to the threads.

I took my manifolds to an exhaust shop and had them use the torch to get the old studs out. As I recall, it cost about $30.
