1971 Glass replacement?
I'm currently restoring my 71 coupe and while it wont be judged I want to keep the car as accurate as possible. The front windshield and back glass was damaged. Are the front windshields and rear glass dated? If so, should I look for glass of that year? Can I etch the date into the glass? Any input into this area would be great as I need to get these parts sourced. This car is an unhit, unmolested LS5 and I want to do this right. Does glass dates even matter on a car like this?

Hi Kevin,
The original glass on a coupe (4 pieces) had the mfg logo and a date code (2 letters) etched into the glass surface.
There are several companies that supply the dated glass.
One of them is Auto City Classics in Minnesota.
Having the windshield shipped is a bit of a hassle since the package/crate it comes in is too large for UPS service.
It needs to come by common carrier and I believe still needs to be delivered to a commercial address.
If you want to keep your car 'original' in appearance it's worth the little hassle.
The side/rear glass can be shipped normally.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Here's the LOF (Libby Owens Ford) logo and date from my January built 71 windshield. 'VT' is December 'V', 1970 'T'.
