off topic/ford
......But there are some good mechanics/ techs here. My son just left for his third tour in Iraq. Air Force. His 98 grand marquis will not start...no fuel. It has been sitting for a while 6-8 months and it was running when he parked it. I am trying to fix it for him. If I spray gas into the intake it will start.. but won't stay running. I checked power to the fuel pump at the pump with a test light....the light was very dim, but it did light up. The fuel shut off switch is not tripped. I disconnected fuel lines at intake,,no fuel. Any Ideas?
Some Fords you can hear pump running in the tank. In tank pump failures are usually caused by clogged filter or debris. I have several Fuel injected Ford trucks and vans, I consider fuel pump as a maintenance item but changing filters about every 15000 miles will get the most life out of any fuel pump.
Stay away from the cheapo imported pumps dropping the fuel tank is not that easy a job for most average Joes
Good Luck
