Default C6 Z06 brakes

I am not planning on tracking this car. I had the parts and just decided it would make a nice street setup. The 17" wheels made the stock rotor look kinda dinky when viewed through the wheel spokes. The brake setup should perform as well or better than the original for a street driven car. Thanks

Love the work on the brake install; very well thought out.
You are joking I hope? You think it would be easier to put a C3 body on a C6 chassis than change some brake parts? Seriously though, I am on a budget and I put more labor than dollars on some of these projects. The C6 Z06 brake conversion cost me about $1000 to complete, including all the parts involved. The custom hollow sway bars front and rear cost me about $80 to fabricate. I do a lot of fabricating in my shop and it saves me a tremendous amount of money if I had to job it out. I would love to have all C-6 running gear but I have to limit some things when I am on a budget. I do not need ABS and my power train (custom built 383 with Richmond 6-speed) is all I need. Also, as far as the brake conversion, I had a little time and most of the parts to put it together, so it was actually just a little experiment to see how it would perform. I will test it out and let everyone know how it works. It also knocked a few pounds of sprung weight off the car, the aluminum calipers are a lot lighter than the original cast iron. Thanks

Very nice set up. That would make me spring for a set of big wheels for mine too. Make sure when you make some brackets to get me in the loop too. Nice work.

Very Nice!! I think of doing that every time I pull my '69 into the garage next to my C6ZO6 and see those big red calipers staring at me.

Thank you for the compliment. This project took a lot of patience and a lot of late night head scratching.

I know what you mean. I looked at those calipers and rotors and just had to figure out a way to make them work on my C3. Now I want another set for my C-5. Thanks

That is wise idea because if you have over 500 hp they will last only 2-3 laps with RR slicks.

I was interested in the balance. Have you got up to high speed and stomped on the brake to see if it has one or two wheels locking up?

Has anyone ever made the caliper brackets available?

If You don't mind what machining was needed on the Front Spindles to use the 14" C6 Rotors ? Bearing mounting surface ? Or a clearance issue. You say that additional Photos were posted but I'm not finding them. Thanx,,,

To mount the C6 Z06 front rotor on a C3 front hub you must: Machine the hub diameter down about 1/4" (approx), you must also machine the hub where the rotor centers on the hub, cut the hub down a about .010" (approx). In other words the rotor center hole is just barely smaller than the hub, and the rear of the rotor is just a little smaller than the total od of the hub. If you have a hub and a rotor in front of you, it is very obvious what needs to be done if you measure both with a caliper. It was fairly easy to modify the hub to fit the rotor. I had a machine shop do it in a cnc machine, it took him about 1 minute. He also trued the front surface of the hub to give me zero runout on the rotors. Someone with a good brake disc machine could cut the hub down to fit inside the back of the rotor. We did this once by using a longer cutter on the machine. The spindle was not modified. Thanks

Ok I see what needs to be done. I have a Lathe and a Mill so I should be able to do this myself. I will probably spend more time making an Axel to pass threw the Hub so as I can Machine everything True.

If you have a lathe and a mill you should be able to do all the mods to make everything fit. The front hubs and the rear axle shafts always have runout from the factory, which multiplies to the rotor after it is fitted. If you can fix the runout on those parts with your mill or lathe you will be in good shape. Thanks

Very Impressive set up. Did you build the trailing arms too?

They look awesome. I would like to have a set of those.
