Trusted Supplier For 200r4
Hi all,
Living in the UK means most of what we purchase for our Vettes is relatively expensive and equally expensive to return if a fault or failure occures, hence my post...
Im looking to upgrade to a 200r4, my engine is a 383 stroker pushing out around 400hp, at present i have a TH400 in but looking to upgrade to the 4 speed for lower RPM on cruises and save a few £'s on fuel (i know the expense of the box will take years to pay off ).
Im look at a box that will last me some years and maybe go behind an engine upgrade in a few years time with a few more horses.
I would like your input on the following suppliers please:
http://www.monstertrans.com/store/ca...4R/Heavy-Duty/
http://www.extremeautomatics.com/tra...ons/2004r.html (stage 2)
http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata....php?ITEMID=13 (level 3)
insert alternative supplier here..........
The debate is not Th400/200r4/700r4/4L80e etc. as i have decided the 200r4 is the way to go for me, what i would like is feedback on the suppliers, are they well built boxes? do they live up to the hype on their websites? hidden costs? gaurantees? how easy to deal with..... you get the drift, any relevant info good or bad please post up your thoughts
I found this page interesting:
http://www.extremeautomatics.com/eavscomp/th2004r.html
I guess if it was BS they would be in court by now
Thanks for your help, i just want a reliable well built box that will last

IF you can find a 200 4r over there, you can save the import fees, and shipping weight, the units are NOT that complicated to overhaul....I did mine maybe 6 years ago by now, and it's been fine....
the only 'modification' to worry over is the TRANS GO shift kit....accept NO other.....I would imagine Tq converters are available over there, and then the trick for the ten vane front pump.....that one depends on anything you find there....
Parts sent there are a whole lot cheaper and easier than a complete unit...
look on line for the ATSG service guide, and buy your parts online also....
it's NOT that complicated a unit, really, it's not....just need a few C clamps, and some chunks of wood, and some *****.....
if I could do it at age !~60- or so....I bet you can too....worst part is getting the thing in and outta the car....seriously....

Thanks for the replies, getting hold of a 200r4 is very difficult in the UK, i have searched for months, they are usually snapped up instantly on the rare occasions they come up for sale, so i guess biting the bullet and shipping a whole unit is the only way, if im going to ship one, it might as well be built by a specialist and shipped as a working unit.
Hopefully some more will post up their experiences with suppliers
