Default 700R4 interchange question

Hi guys.
So my trans with 76K mile bit in, no drive gear, but has al others.
It started off with a slip between 2nd & drive, then would not leave 1st, now shifts into 1st & 2nd only.

I found another 700R4 on CL right up the street from me that came out of an 86K mile 88 Vette.
They did an M6 conversion.

My question is, will it directly bolt into my 82, or were there some casting changes, or tail shaft length differences from 82 to 88?

Thanks.

If it's just down the street, why don't you just compare measurements?

I guess I should be more verbose & detailed.
My trans is still in the car, on the ground & this just happened this week.
I'm also asking if anything was different between the years.

Quite a few internal changes, nothing external. Go for it

The tail shaft is certainly different, but I think the same length.

You might want to look at the governor. A bad one can cause that syndrome.

84 up has a shorter tail shaft if your going for a used one look for a 87 up f body unit i have a trans shop in west virginia i didnt see were your from 82 was the first and worse yr for a 700r 84-86 units are better and can be updated for a stock crusier but 87 up is the most desirable

I just picked up the trans, & he gave me the driveshaft, so I should be OK, right?

And I have no idea where the governor is!
Transmissions are my weak point.
