Default Blown 77 Starting to Come Together

I've been working on the car for a few months now, getting it ready to put the new engine in.

Engine is Dart 427 w/ Brodix CNC'd alum heads and a Bowties Overdrives 765r4 4spd automatic trans with 10" lockup converter.

I detailed the engine compartment and painted it to match the car, also the engine is painted the same color as the car.

Now that I'm finally making some progress I'll post some pics.

A/C Delete

Danger Will Robinson!

Updated (very dusty) dash

Engine Painted to Match Car

Firewall (those yellow flecks are just reflections from the blower in the paint)

What others will see in thier rear view mirror

Jeep Steering Box and Borgeson Ragsta Joint (Thanks to a great aussie on the jeep/borgeson thread for this stuff!)

Hydroboost

Home made plumbing and fuel log (I'm still learning to do plumbing)

Home made Spal Fan enclosure 1

Home made Spal Fan enclosure 2

Drivers Mirror

I'll try to update with more pics and descriptions as I go along.

Please don't hesitate to stop me and point things out that can be done better or are being done incorrectly.

Looks amazing. The funny part is no matter how many countless hours you spend on that car, most people will remember the eyeballs :-)

Oy Vey....

I think it would be easier to say what is hooked up...

Starting from the front, this is what I can think of while sitting at my desk
  • finish install of new forward & engine wiring harnesses
  • Assemble headlights
  • install headlight relay kit
  • repolish all billet alum
  • Install rad support, rad, puke tank, trans cooler, fans, & fan wiring
  • Run cooler lines to transmission
  • plumb -8 from fuel tank to pump, add bypass regulator to aft fuel log, plumb -8 return line to tank
  • repolish all billet alum
  • install and plumb power steering pump & reservior
  • install alternator
  • Plumb hydroboost & steering
  • Install starboard header
  • install sparkplugs & wiring (anyone know which post is plug #1 on the dizzy?) when I was 16 I knew three numbers: My driver's licence, phone, and 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
  • repolish all billet alum
  • connect & calibrate throttle and kickdown linkage
  • make 11 trips to parts store attempting to find the right length p/s and alternator belts
  • install and wire/plumb all gauge sending units
  • make at least 8 or 9 more trips to Ace to buy fastners I thought I already had on hand.
  • get driveshaft shortened & balanced, find out it still vibrates, order a new custom built one, install that.
  • install & calibrate torque converter lockup circuit
  • repolish all billet alum
  • install & calibrate shifter
  • tune and adjust power window regulators and tracks (all new hardware installed)
  • reassemble interior
  • fab & assemble custom center dash for gauges
  • connect all those gauges & mount the panel
  • R&R IRS with upgraded unit
  • R&R rear mono spring with stiffer spring
  • drop fuel tank to update with -8 lines and fittings
  • repolish all billet alum
  • install fluids, p/s, oil, trans, coolant... remember I forgot to fill the IRS differential, have a beer while trying to work up the motivation to drop the diff, fill it, and put it back.
  • clean up all the spills from adding the fluids
  • repolish all billet alum
  • install sidepipes
  • check and inspect all wiring, fasteners, and linkages, for correct connection and or tightness
  • start the car
  • begin the multi page Bowtie Overdrives post install calibration process on transmission

Did a little more work last night.

I slightly smooshed a few of the radiator fins (transmission cooler pic)with knuckle while installing the cooler. Is there a proper way to straighten them back out?

I attempted a practice run on an old radiator and it didn't go well.

Transmission Cooler

Fresh Vacuum Lines

Radiator and Spal fans. (its getting tight)

Please note: I am very appreciative of "hey you're doing it wrong..." or "If I were you, I would...." type of critical feedback. I'd rather learn by way of insult than proceed blissfully unaware.

Awesome, so a spare 15 minutes on the weekend, cool!!! You're doing a great job... Probably be worth a road trip from Vegas just to see it running when you're done...

Rob, You're doing a fine job. Before long, all you will have left is polishing, polishing, polishing, polishing, that should keep you busy for a while. Love the ideal of the Eyes on the scoop.

looking forward to seeing your progress.

Riggs.

ay ay ay For the ultimate in **** retentiveness... I must have one. Thanks for looking that up

I did a little more plumbing tonight. Unlike houshold plumbing which I avoid like the plague, I really enjoy automotive plumbing.

I made some hard lines to feed from the fender to the transmission cooler.

I'm not too excited about the the variety of compound bends needed to dress the hard line to the irregular shape of the inner fender, so I'm thinking I'll tuck -8 braided lines under the fender lip and down the firewall for the rest of the run.

The other pics are the rest of the fuel system hard lines. I was going to run -4 hard line from the bypass regulator to the fuel pressure gauge tonight as well, but the company I ordered the line from sent me 334 by mistake. Its just a hair too big. I'm sure the warehouse has a shelf with -5 above and -3 below, and someone mistakenly put this metric tubing in the similar sized -4 spot. I hope they'll send me the right stuff.

lines bent and polished

Fittings and flares added

Lines installed arond Radiator Brace

Stubbed out at inner fender. (The angle I took the pic makes them
look like they're really sticking out - but they're really pretty tight to
the inner fender wall.)

I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out. (I took this pic after
finishing the beer, but before bolting that center brace you see
adrift there in front of the radiator. I had to remove the entire
radiator & brace assembly again to put the hard lines in. I'm getting
pretty good at removing and replacing the radiator brace assembly)

Fuel Filter and Lines

Bypass Regulator

Lobo was not much help...
