1968 L88 versus 426 Hemi SuperBee
This is assuming, of course, you can get the Hemi to the track without fouling a plug. Trailer?

There are a LOT of variables, in these races, driver skills being one, although they're really fun to watch.

I don't think the L88 design was optimized for drag racing. As far as I know, it used the stock IRS rear end, and if it used the stock IRS, the IRS would be getting close to being marginal.

In the video it says the Vette has 4.56 gears and the Dodge 4.10. You can bet these cars are "tinkered with" though not to the extent that the F.A.S.T. cars are. One significant factor in this racing that is not mentioned anywhere in their rules is car weight. They don't go on the scales. Weight distribution also is not restricted. So I imagine these cars are lightened and are carrying some ballast in the back for traction.

Yeah. You can hear him letting off the gas before the stripe each time. The way these guys race is they make a couple initial runs and their average ET is recorded. Then they are paired up to race a 2 out of 3 match with a car with similar average times. If you run more than .15 quicker than your average, you are disqualified. The Dodge guy was obviously sandbagging on his initial runs to establish a soft qualifying ET to get an advantage during eliminations. Pretty lame.

That Dodge must be 550 cubic inches to out run the Vette with a 600 pound handicap , Dick Landy's Dodge wasn't that quick

Real World
I lived it, on the street, the only time at strip was to test a new part or tune.
I had a 67' 427/435 it was about 50 - 50 against the Hemi the 2 x 4 barrels.
I then moved up to a L88 and thought I could bet any Hemi, that conceit cost me a $1,000. I met a guy with a Hemi Cuda that insisted that we met near his shop, he brought out a freshly tuned Hemi, he was reflexes were quick, very quick. I did not want a rematch.
It only took a Summer to blow the L88 3 times, the last time fatally. I then bought a Dick Harrell Nova 427 with everything, including a B&M Hrydrostck,
4,000 rpm stall speed, and 456 gears. I sold it right before I killed myself.

The Bee went across the finish line at 105 mph, but the 'vette went across at 120! The Bee got way out in front right off the line, but the 'vette was catching up! This was even better than the "fuel-injected Sting Ray and a 413" race that The Beach Boys sang about.

Yes, the street is slick, no matter what you see on "Street Outlaws". The little trick of setting the 3 carb to be engaged at the line and not at about 60 feet helps control the spin.
