dual inlet air cleaner (L82 sytyle)
Are there any performance (or sound) gains to be had by installing the L82 dual inlet air cleaner on a single inlet L48 (1978 model)?
Thanks,
Dan

Well, any time you can get cool air to the engine, it's better than getting it from inside the engine compartment. There probably is some small HP/torque gain (a few HP), but that's probably small when compared to a better exhaust system.

It depends on how much air your engine can use but in my case, with a mild 383, in back to back runs on a drag strip, I compared the stock L48 single inlet unit with the ducting to the rad support to an open element 14 x 3 drop base unit. My car ran 3 tenths quicker with the open unit even though it was drawing the underhood air. So, in my case, the single inlet restriction was significant.
