Default Flo-Tek Aluminum Heads - Anyone use them?

I came across these heads while flipping through a Speedway Motors catalog.

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Flo-Te...lug,25117.html

Appear to be from Tr-State Cylinder head in Indiana. Read some other forums and they appear to be the same design as "Sumitt House brand". Assembled - $350 each.

Here is data from the Companies website.

Installation Notes: Head Gasket: Fel-Pro 1003, 1014, 1034 and 1043
Intake Gasket: Fel-Pro 1205 - 1206
Spark Plug: C57CX
Intake Test @ 28" of Water
.100 73.6 CFM
.200 123 CFM
.300 165 CFM
.400 206 CFM
.500 237 CFM
.600 244 CFM
Exhaust Test @ 28" of Water
.100 68 CFM
.200 109 CFM
.300 132 CFM
.400 165 CFM
.500 177 CFM
.600 187 CFM

Lift Intake Exhaust
.400 206 165
.500 237 177
.600 244 187

I know that you usually get what you pay for, but I am trying to stay within budget. Right now, the heads that were on my car are junk. Dont want to waste my time putting them back on. So I need something obviously. I am having a hard time finding a set of decent stock heads for some reason. Even Vortec's seem affordable, until you add all the xtra's like intake, rockers, etc..

From what I have been reading, some say they are cast in Australia, and some believe that they are cast in China.

Guess im not going to find anything under $1,000...

You can get edelbrock E-street Alu heads for less than $900 shipped.

I have also seen cheap heads like those you listed but most here say they are not worth it. Edelbrock and one other name brand company have some cheaper heads that are still good quality.

Yeah, I dont know why I was thinking they were over 1,000 for the E-Streets.. I dont even need aluminum to be honest.

I wish I could use that 100 Edelbrock cash on the heads when I buy them. I have everything else I already need..

Since your on a budget and don't want to spend 1600$ on a set of heads, check out dart shp aluminum heads and scroggin dickeys vortec heads, both great deals and flow pretty good for the money.

sounds like it may be a good deal.

If you really don't need aluminum, Iron vortec heads are even cheaper and flow better then ZZ4 heads. You'll need to change your intake though

Yeah, Vortec's appear to be the cheapest out of the box, but add the intake and slef sligning rockers, are they are not the cheapest any more.

Right now the E-Streets are on sale for 866. SD has the vortec setup with intake, rockers and bolts for mid 900's..

Ben - I sent you a PM.

Anyone know what HP I can expect out of the Vortec's? The one good thing about the complete Top-End kit is that it goves you an idea of what you have built..

The E-Streets claim 330 HP, but that all +/- what carb you have, intake, cam, etc.. But its a good ball park. I cant find an estimate on what the Vortec's will do..

These flow better than the E streets for sure and better than the flow numbers I have seen for the Vortec's, especially on the exhaust side. These are set up for hydraulic flat tappet cam but roller cam springs are available at no upcharge.

This link is to the heads with the larger diameter valve springs, for the roller cam. You can see it's basically the same head with different springs, only one digit difference in the part number.

Hmm, well my price for these at Jegs put them even cheaper than the E-Streets. 845 for the pair, shipped. Very good...

Unfortunately, I am going to shelf the idea for a while till I can start my detailing hobby back up in the spring to make a little extra cash.. Going to stop by my machine shop this Friday to discuss where my block stands. He wants to deck one side of the block because it is 0.015 different than the other side. And on top of that, the PO used cheap pistons when it was origianlly rebuilt which is giving me wacky numbers for my piston to deck height... He wants to put a st of Keith Black pistons in and get everything in the motor tight and within allowable tollerances, which puts the heads out of budget.. For right now that it..

The Sept. 2012 issue of Car Craft magazine has an extensive test of seven "budget" priced aluminum heads for SBC that includes all the ones already mentioned as well as a few others. The article can be found on-line at the below address or "Google" Car Craft magazine Sept. 2012.
