Default Heater Duct Questions

I've had a constant problem with heat under the dash on my 77 w/AC, so I pulled the passenger side dash apart to take a look. It appears that I'm missing a vacuum canister on the vent door to the right, does anyone know what this door does, and is the vacuum canister available now?
Also, the lower piece to the left, that mates with the defroster duct doesn't fit against the defroster duct. The duct doesn't have any adjustment and the lower piece can only move about an 1/8". Does the whole heater box have any adjustment? Thanks in advance for any info guys.

I don't have an answer for the first question but as for the second, my 68 had a smiilar, but slightly smaller gap between the heater box and the defrost duct. I could not find a way to adjust the box or duct to make them meet up correctly so metal duct tape solved it.

They almost all have gaps. Duct tape is fine as a solution.
