Default Crankshaft # 3856223 - question?

Mortec lists #3856223 as a 396 forged crankshaft .
Mortec lists # 6223 as a 396/402/427 forged crankshaft.

Being engine illiterate, how can the same crankshaft work for different displacement engines? Is it a different size piston with the same travel distance??

Yep, exactly. The bigger the engine, the bigger the bore and piston diameters given the same stroke length.

Thanks.
But now the important questions - when are you going to install the monster sitting in that big wooden box? :D

 Someday... My main problem is finding the time to research parts. I like to check out all my options before I buy engine components, so I probably only average one a week :) Heck, it's supposed to be a fun hobby, so I take my time and enjoy the ride. I'll probably have the engine finished sometime this summer, but it may sit in the garage until fall. I just can't bring myself to take the car apart when the sun is shining.

I did receive my new Dart heads this week. Progress!
