Old rule of thumb: ignition first, then carb.

Not looking to jack the thread but have the exact same year and motor. Am going tomorrow to buy the recurve weights and other tune up parts. I see they come with several sets of springs, which ones do I use? If I do not move the distributor, and I know timing is right now, do I need to check timing? Dont have a light but checked at my buddies last week and he said dead on.
Thanks

Yes, you must re-time.

Has this been a issue since you've had the car? If not its probably just that the original springs are becoming fatigued and stretch way to easy. you can buy a moroso or mr. gasket advance kit, 20 minutes to install. if it's done this all along, retard the timing by to degrees at a time untill it doesn't ping.

9:1 but, he's saving $$$ by using regular. Pistons are cheap!

L-82 required PREMIUM fuel per GM owners manual. Best that you sell your Vette and look for an L-48, it will be slower but, won't detonate on 87 octane.
