How do you keep the C3 from getting light above 120mph?

1 output shaft - one of the two fifth gears is part of the shaft.
2 5th gear
3 get 9 new rubber o rings for the shifter rails
4 rubber o ring for front countershaft bearing cup if you have any signs of seepage.
5 shim kit, so you can reset end play on both shafts to .000
6 new nylon shift fork bushings - convert to brass while your at it for drag guys -
Under $500 in parts, and lots of fun with snap rings, roll pins, and needle bearings
Of course new synchro rings is not a bad idea if you're a slam shifting drag racer
I used to come out of 4th at 6,300, and drop down to 4,000... Now it should drop to 5,200 or so - perfect.

Ive hit 130 on the road course (no more gear left) But I can say there is a big difference compared to nothing.
Look at BeeJays custom Pace car spoiler. I would say his looks the best and is probably the most functional.
Here is mine... The aluminum support rods are "consumables" but the fiberglass will flex enough if you scrape a driveway. The only reason I have scraped my splitter/bent a support rod is because I was forced to enter a driveway at a less than optimal approach angle or I wasnt paying attention and hit a HUGE pot hole. Most speedbumps are no taller than 3" and if they are, they are the speed "humps" that span a further distance so I still wont scrape.

I've been 125 plus on the road coarse. Ran out of straight, still had 1 1/2 gears to go.

Well that's the question... I have the following mods for suspention but above 120 I can still feel her starting to get light, and at arond 160 it's just not good.... So here are the mods:
I am between 3-4" off the ground from frame or exhaust. #550 front springs cut 1/2 coil, bilstine sport shocks, #360 rear carbon fibor spring, spreader bar, tires and wheels rated for such speeds... Large front and rear sway bars, rack and pinion...so for just suspension that is what I have.
I think I'm not letting enough air escape from under the hood,,,, I saw Beejay install hood vents, so I think that that will be my next mod.... Any other ideas? Thx

Bellypan. There are none commercially available for our cars, so you should make one and then make a small production run for some of the rest of us so we can buy them 3 years from now. ;-)

Do you find the steering feels scary / squirrelly at speed with the Steeroids Rack?? -I don't even like mine at like about 75mph... Feels like tiny corrections to the wheel just make the car dart all over the road...

Simple answer....slow down. Apologize if you are on a track, but otherwise, nobody has right to go that fast on the streets and it is irresponsible and dangerous. Many have been killed doing it, and its not always the driver.

If the car is darting back and forth at speed I would blame your state for not maintaining the roads and allowing them to become cuped. Wide Tires. A 1958 Suspension design intended for 5.5" wheels. Worn parts and or a collection of all of this. Having run the Nevada 100 in 1993 when Highway 318 was at its worst this was very apparent at speed ! In Seattle we have some of the worst road maintenance in the country and I was surprised what a difference going from a performance tire to a regular production tire made on a late model sedan.

I gotta wonder if the 78 to 82 have a greater tendency to float vs the 77 and prior body styles.
The Big back window and the the resulting shape more closely resemble the shape of a wing. This would I believe have a greater tendency to create "lift" in a direction that would make the car light on the ground.
With the scoop back design the air might have a greater tendency to turbulate after it cleared the back window spoiling lift. Just an observation of the two shape differences, no Idea if it's valid.
On my 77 I extended the front spoiler (air dam) to increase air flow to the radiator. It may have had the unintended effect of reducing the amount of air flowing under the car as well. I have done 135 MPH in a 30 MPH headwind, so as far as the car was concerned I was doing 165 MPH, and did not experience any float that I could detect. Straight line only of course.
Not done any study on this subject but wouldn't a belly pan reduce drag, but increase the positive pressure under the car creating a greater float tendency? Unless some kind of spoiler was used to divert or ruin the airflow/pressure under the car?
