Default foam wedges between body and chassis - 1970

There are two small foam wedges (about 3" on a side) somewhere between the frame rails and firewall area on a '70. Its shown on page B6 of section 1 of assembly manual. I bought the wedges but can't figure out exactly where they would go and how they would be mounted. Does anyone know? A picture would help, but I am sure it would be difficult to get one down there without a lift. thanks, Steve

They install where the AIM shows them and probably went on before body drop.

Mike, I have the AIM, but can't figure out what the picture in there is showing. Do they go on top of frame rails? If so, how far back? Steve

Hi Steve,
Here are the original wedges in place on my 71.
They had some black glue on them that held them against the toe-board. The lip on the birdcage rocker channel helps hold them in place too.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan - these pictures are perfect! The repro wedges I bought were black. Looks like your originals are white? I assume you took these pictures from underneath the car, with the heat plates at bottom of firewall removed. I just put mine in same spot on my car, but I can't figure out what the function of these are. They don't seem to be blocking air from anything. Thoughts? Steve

Hi,
I've always thought they were there to try to stop heat from blowing back along the outer sides of the foot wells.
The original wedge and the orginal additional foam shield, (L shaped), that wraps the frame rail in front of the# 2 body mounts on my 71, appear to have been pale yellow or cream colored when new. Odd?

Alan

There is a "hole" behind that location that leads along the door channel. My guess is they were meant to block heat from going along there

Poor picture

Hi m,
After taking another look at the page in the AIM I think you might be right. Your's are sitting on top of the birdcage channel, rather than the lip which appears to be what the AIM drawing is showing.

Alan

I don't know Alan, Not following instructions is kind of my specialty
I couldn't figure out the location in the AIM so I put them in the only place I thought made sense.
A little dab of adhesive and hope to never deal with them again

I agree - it is probably to block the air from going in the hole in corner. Thanks guys. Steve
