Default Question on transmission crossmember

1972 Vette, Turbo 400 has been yanked out. Converting to stick (M22 Muncie). Can I use the auto trans crossmember? Does it require any modifications to use it (welding), or is it a simple switch?

You can keep the bolt-in crossmember. I'm not sure if you need to replace/relocate/modify the [also bolt-in] mount member, itself; but if so, that should be a simple task.

Aside from the fact that an auto crossmember bolts in, the difference between a 400 turbo and a 4 speed crossmember is the two tabs welded to the front side of the crossmember. A later C-3 that came with a 350 turbo will have these tabs. You can fab the tabs and weld or bolt them to your existing crossmember.
You will also need an original tranny mount pad to support the 4 speed. It will bolt to the top of the existing crossmember (where the original 400 mount bolted on) and use the new tabs you will be adding to the front of the crossmember.
This photo shows the bracket you will need. The one on the right

This one shows the tabs you will need.

Good luck with your install.

Replacement frames for 68-74 all had the removable crossmember. I had to replace mine due to Cleveland, OH. winter salt. Lou.

Thanks for all the input. I think I will go with a complete new crossmember that has the 4-speed tab already welded in and that is a direct replacement for the bolt in crossmember:
