Orfice tube O ring question

Orfice tube O ring question
All,
I am doing some work on my 78's air conditioner and have a question. I am replacing the orfice tube. When I removed the metal tube that goes into the tube that houses the orfice tube itself I found an o ring on the end of the tube nearest the orfice tube but I did not see an o ring on the opposite end (the end that mounts to the firewall and connects to another metal line.
The tube I am referring to is the one that runs on top of the coolant tank.
I can not find a diagram of the system components and wondered if anyone knew if there was an o ring on that end and, if so, what size it was.
