ok...got all the stuff i need to put in the removable rear window in my 77,,took hours to get the black goo off,,dont know which did more damage to my brain,,,the acetone i used or the beer i needed to keep going .!!..so it looks like i need to glue the gasket to the car,,tried putting it in place but it kept falling out,,must have been the beer that kept me trying .!. ..
so what do i " glue " the gasket in place with .?...and do i let it set there or put the window in ?,,do i put the window in tight to help it seal or loose to leave some tight for later or what .??..should i let the gasket set in the sun to get warm and be more flexible and expanded or keep it somewhat cool for stiffness .?.it seems to be a bit out of shape from being shiped in a small box..tried wrapping it around the window frame but it dont fit tite,,but it seems to fit in the hole in the car just fine,,as much as i could tell before it fell out again.. ....thanks for any help from the experianced...
What are you using for adhesive? The stuff from 3M grabs pretty fast and should work without giving you too much grief.
You can use masking tape at strategic locations as helping hands.
when I did mine, I used Loctite (could use 3M) black weatherstrip sealant.
I put the window in to hold the sealant in place, and used masking tape to pull and hold the corners of the gasket out. Window did not seem to push gasket out at corners and the window would stick going in and out without the gasket secured well at the corners.
